Arañitas
Prep: 10 minutes | Cook: 5 minutes | Yield: 2-3 arañitas, depending on size
INGREDIENTS:
1 green plantain
1 cup vegetable oil
salt or garlic salt to taste
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Cut off the ends of the plantain and peel.
2. Shred the plantain using the small holes on a box grater.
3. Add a small amount of salt to the shredded plantain, mix to incorporate.
4. Using your hands, take a pinch of plantain about the size of a golf ball, roll it between your palms, and flatten it a bit—using the right amount of force to stick the strands together without it breaking apart.
5. Once the arañitas are formed, drop them in the oil over medium heat. They cook fast, so be ready to flip them and pull them out once the edges turn golden
6. Add salt or garlic salt to taste, and serve on their own or with mayoketuchup!
